- Always be ready to stimulate and assist when the child is in the mood. Don't turn speaking into a lesson, obligation or test.
- Once your children has start using words rather than gestures or whimpers, encourage all their attempts to express themselves through speech. Respond more readily to a spoken request than to crying or babbling and they will be motivated to used words all the more.
- Satisfy the need for conversation. Children love to talk and listen, even when they understand little about syntax. They develop their skills gradually from simple to complex patterns and they absorb and store much good language rather than using it right away.
